Jim Horne notes:
45-Down: "Office held by Adlai Stevenson" for VICE PRESIDENCY sure looks wrong. Adlai Stevenson famously ran for PRESIDENT twice, in 1952 and 1956, and lost both times. He was never President or Vice President. But the clue is correct if it refers to his grandfather.
- Adlai Stevenson I (The Grandfather): He was a prominent Democratic politician who served as the 23rd Vice President of the United States from 1893 to 1897 under President Grover Cleveland. He also ran for Vice President again in 1900 as William Jennings Bryan's running mate.
- Adlai Stevenson II (The Grandson): He was the Governor of Illinois, the UN Ambassador, and the two-time Democratic presidential nominee who lost to Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1950s.
