29-Down: Judy gets this in 'A Star Is Born' : OSCAR" is incorrect, but a fascinating story.

Judy Garland starred in the massive 1954 remake of A Star Is Born and was widely considered the absolute lock to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. The 27th Academy Awards took place on March 30, 1955. Garland had just given birth to her son and was watching the broadcast from her hospital bed, where a live television crew was literally set up in her room to capture her acceptance speech. In one of the biggest upsets in Oscar history, Grace Kelly won the award instead for The Country Girl.

This puzzle was presumably written, submitted, edited, and typeset before the shocking announcement. It was a sure-thing. Until it wasn't.
