Grid Art

A personal look at some memorable grid patterns

Unlike most of the pages on this site, this list is completely subjective. It's a collection of grid patterns that caught my eye for one reason or another. As you explore this web site, look for "thumbnail" links that take you to more collections with interesting properties.

See Visual Puzzles for a different take on artistic grids, including "connect the dots" puzzles.

Click any thumbnail to see the full view.

Some of the best grid art is can be found in diagramless puzzles where the grid shape is designed to fool or delight you. This is my favorite. It's also very unusual. Diagramless puzzles never have circles or shaded squares, yet this one has both. The letters in the tuning pegs represent the notes of the four violin strings.
SPOILER ALERT: Avoid this link if you're still working your way through old diagramless puzzles, but if you'd like to see the wide range of past grid shapes, click here to see them all.

See Visual Puzzles for a different take on artistic grids, including "connect the dots" puzzles.
