Define the units of: (a) magnetic flux, and (b) inductance.

Obtain an expression for the induced e.m.f. and for the stored energy of a circuit, in terms of its inductance, assuming a steady rise of current from zero to its final value and ignoring saturation. A coil, of inductance 5 H and resistance 100 Ω, carries a steady current of 2 A. Calculate the initial rate of fall of current in the coil after a short-circuiting switch connected across its terminals has been suddenly closed. What was the energy stored in the coil, and in what form was it dissipated?
